A brand new 00 Gauge (1:76 scale) Dapol truck /wagon, depicting 'N.W' or the North Western Railway as depicted in the Rev W. Awdry's books 'The Railway Series', later popularised on TV as Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. Compatible with all OO/HO Hornby and Bachmann Thomas products.
In Awdry's lore The North Western Railway was formed in 1914 and from nationalisation on 1st January 1948 until privatisation in 1997, it was the North Western Region of British Railways. The railway's motto is "Nil Unquam Simile", which is Latin for "There's nothing quite like it".
In the Railway Series the Island of Sodor is connected to the mainland at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and so these 'troublesome' trucks include the marking 'Return to Barrow-in-Furness'. Awdry always maintained that Sodor had no coal mines so the wagons come with a removeable coal load as if they were used to move coal from the mainland to the island.
